[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] LG Energy Solution has signed a large-scale energy storage system (ESS) battery supply agreement with DTE Energy, strengthening its presence in the rapidly growing North American energy storage market.
The company announced on May 28 that it will supply approximately 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of ESS batteries under a contract valued at USD 1.6 billion (around KRW 2.4 trillion), with deliveries scheduled over a two-year period.
DTE Energy, a major utility based in Detroit, Michigan, serves approximately 2.3 million electricity customers and 1.3 million natural gas customers. The batteries will be deployed across eight key grid projects, including the Oracle AI data center initiative in Saline Township, Michigan, where they will help stabilize power loads and improve operational efficiency.
The ESS batteries will be produced primarily at LG Energy Solution’s Holland, Michigan facility, which began large-scale ESS battery production last year. The company is expanding its North American manufacturing footprint, with multiple facilities in operation or under development across the U.S. and Canada.
LG Energy Solution aims to increase its global ESS production capacity to over 60GWh by the end of the year, with more than 50GWh allocated to North America to enhance local supply competitiveness.
