[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] SEOUL, June 4 — The Democratic Party of Korea is leading in 23 of Seoul’s 25 district mayor races in early vote counting, signaling a potential landslide victory in the local elections.
According to the National Election Commission, with 26.38% of ballots counted as of 12:30 a.m., Democratic Party candidates were ahead in most districts, often with vote shares in the 60–70% range.
The party is performing strongly even in traditionally conservative areas such as Gangnam, Songpa, Yongsan and Jung, suggesting a dramatic reversal from the 2022 local elections when the People Power Party dominated.
Analysts say the outcome reflects strong support for President Lee Jae-myung early in his term, with voter sentiment favoring the ruling party.
The People Power Party was leading in only two districts — Seocho and Dongjak — as incumbency advantages appeared to have limited impact in this election.
