[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, June 2, 2026 — A fire at a manufacturing facility operated by Hyundai Mobis in India has raised concerns over potential disruptions to parts supply for Hyundai Motor and Kia.

According to local media reports, the fire broke out at around 3:30 p.m. on May 31 at a waste storage area within the Hyundai Mobis plant located in Chennai, southeastern India.

The blaze spread to a production building that manufactures key components including automotive electronics, chassis systems, and airbags, completely destroying the facility before being extinguished after approximately four hours.

Around 500 workers were safely evacuated at the time of the incident, and no casualties were reported.

The Chennai plant primarily supplies components to nearby Hyundai and Kia production facilities, raising concerns over possible short-term supply disruptions.

A Hyundai Mobis official said the company is working closely with automakers to minimize production impact and stabilize operations as quickly as possible.
